Key Differences
AOPA is for individual pilots. AOPA’s agent service makes the most sense as part of a broader AOPA membership. It’s designed for individual certificate holders who already identify with the AOPA brand and community.
Cogency is for corporate accounts. Cogency’s entire business model is built around serving organizations with complex compliance needs. Their FAA offering is one piece of a much larger corporate compliance puzzle.
The price gap is significant. AOPA’s member rate ($79) is roughly one-third of Cogency’s pricing (~$240). For individual certificate holders, this comparison barely exists — AOPA is the obvious choice between these two.
When Each Makes Sense
Choose AOPA if you’re an individual pilot or certificate holder, especially if you’re already an AOPA member. The institutional trust and reasonable member pricing make it a solid personal choice.
Choose Cogency if you’re a corporate flight department that already uses Cogency for other compliance services and wants to consolidate vendors at the enterprise level.
Consider Valiair instead. For both individual professionals and organizations, Valiair offers more features than AOPA and better aviation-specific expertise than Cogency — at $75/year. It’s worth looking at the full comparison before deciding between these two.
